The International Bridge opened in 1962, forever changing the way people travelled between Sault Canada and Sault Michigan. Before it was built, you had to take a ferry to cross the river. Dedicated by U.S. President Kennedy, the Bridge provides an important year-round trade and tourist route between the two countries. On average, 7000 vehicles cross the Bridge every day! Every year on the Saturday closest to Canada Day (July 1st), you can walk, run, or cycle across.
