NORDIK Institute is a community-based research institute that engages partners in building more vibrant, caring, and sustainable communities, with a focus on regional development in rural, smaller urban, Northern and Indigenous communities. It has collaborated with Indigenous and non-Indigenous organizations and communities in completing over 100 research projects at the local, regional, national and international level. NORDIK takes a holistic approach to development with current work including agricultural innovation; advocacy for passenger trains in Algoma; supporting youth social entrepreneurship; and Animating the John Rowswell Hub Trail. Incorporated in 2007, NORDIK evolved from Algoma University’s Community Economic and Social Development Program and has strong connections with other research institutes, universities, and colleges.
