Algoma University’s campus includes a cross-cultural research and educational development initiative called the Shingwauk Residential Schools Centre. Inspired by Chief Shingwauk’s vision, the Centre partners with diverse community organizations to research, collect, preserve, and display the histories of Residential Schools. Since 1979 the Centre’s Shingwauk Project has been responsible for reunions, healing circles, publications, videos, photo displays, curriculum development and historical tours. They have also established an archive, library, heritage collection, and website.
