Algoma Public Health is a leader in promoting and protecting health and well-being. It creates and sustains healthy communities in collaboration with the public. Workers at Algoma Public Health provide services to communities across the District, including classes, education events, safety inspections, resources for schools and daycares, and a nurse-practitioner-led clinic.
Located at Sault College, Algoma Public Health offers excellent learning opportunities for students interested in pursuing health as a career. The School of Public and Environmental Health trains students to work as Public Health Inspectors and Registered Environmental Health Specialists. Offered in partnership with Sault College, Lake Superior State University, and the Ontario Agency for Health Protection and Promotion, it is the only program of its kind in the U.S. and Canada.
